It's a new balance.

"Karen is a superb moderator who manages to talk about very personal issues in an encouraging way that makes participants think about solutions by themselves rather than simply being told what to do." - Martin E. , New York, NY

Like it or not, a working parent's struggle with life-balance is a daily one. Eventually, most of us find our way into a routine or way of being that's right for us and our families, and we happily chug along. But when challenges arise at home (like a toddler's inability to sleep through the night or uncontrollable tantrums in public) that balance is often thrown into the air and needs to be re-established.

In truth, change is the one guarantee in the lives of parents with young kids, who are in a constant state of growth and development. Watching children grow can be rewarding, but the time and energy spent on figuring out the new balance (do I try to provide comfort during a tantrum or let her cry it out?) is time and energy unintentionally lost when trying to fall asleep at night, in the grocery store line---and at work. But employers can help: Preempt those known parenting challenges by offering educational courses at work that allow parents to anticipate changes and give them to tools to deal. When employees need a little extra guidance, group coaching sessions can quickly and efficiently guide them back into the zone, so that they can get back to work with focus and confidence.
