A better idea might be to sign up with Mothers & Menus, a new food delivery service for new mothers who want to be pampered - and well-nourished.
The pampering starts early, with a prenatal nutritional consultation. After baby comes home, the nourishment begins, with three meals per day, plus two snacks, delivered in an insulated bag to the mother’s door. the meals are cooked individually for each mother and intended to leave her well-fed and energized, without the thousands of grams of fat that might accompany your average take-out order. “Everything is whole grain, organic and seasonal,” says president and founder Karen Gurwitz. Mothers & Menus discourages dietary restrictions for new mothers, but Gurwitz says they will separate or minimize carbs - or, on the other end of the scale, satisfy cravings. “There are some mothers who need their macaroni and cheese,” she says. (In a nod to the nutritional content, it is served with kale.)
If the service seems a bit pricey (starting at $495 for five days). consider the cost of take-out - nutritional and otherwise - and the priceless value of time spent with your new baby. It’s not a bad idea for a shower gift, either. Call 646-522-9591 or visit www.mothersandmenus.com.
